NYC

New York will always feel like home. The second we stepped out of the cab in midtown I breathed in the corner coffee and bagels, the exhaust from the subway, the energy radiating off of millions of ambitious people and I knew in an instant, I was still in love. I will always have a thing for this place that courted me as a teenager, ravaged me as a newlywed and in my late 20's held me sweetly in her arms when I welcomed our rainbow baby, sweet Quinny girl. It was my first time back in what feels like a lifetime, but it all felt the same, as if the city pressed pause when I left and resumed life upon my return. Sometimes  I'm sad that we no longer live in a city as exciting and powerful and delicious as New York, but there's still so much life to live and definitely time for at least one last affair someday. But for now, just a weekend, and a magical one at that!

James speaking at conferences = Heather tagging along and playing in whatever city he visits. It's a win-win, especially when the city in question is New Freaking York and my energy levels are in tip-top shape for adventure. Other than a late-night show and a late-night Yankees game, I was on my own during the weekdays to explore and play and eat, eat, eat! I went uptown and downtown, from the westside to the east and everywhere I went I had a big, goofy smile on my face because everything felt just right.

I've listened to the music for ages and this was the first time I've seen Come From Away in person. Major solo sobfest for the whole 90 minute show. So so good!

There was a mix-up at the hotel on our first day and I couldn't get in without James...but James was in a conference on the other side of town. I ate shake shack and people watched and a few hours later I was able to get into our room. It's not a real trip without a couple hiccups along the way!

The Music Man lived up to every hype I've heard, and that's no small task. Holy stinking cow this show was fantastic!!! Hugh Jackman has our heart!

Hey Taylor!!!

The internet: This place is just an instagram pop-up dreamland. Me: Yup!
Worth every penny and every minute of my day spent at the Color Factory. It was so fun!

I've missed this salad for way too long. Ate it at the base of the World Trade Center and it was a moment.

Better than expected! Honestly so so yummy!

Again, lived up to the hype. I've tried them back in Sac and they don't come close to this level of deliciousness. Wowzers, that was good!

Home.

Vintage shopped my way around the Upper East Side.

Wore Dodger blue with my Yankees hat so no one got too jealous.

Bless you, James Wigginton, for this perfect subway shot.

Nish Nush was James' favorite meal when he worked downtown and somehow this was my first time ever eating there. I'd say it was worth the wait but I really just want to express how angry I am that I missed out on this falafel for years of our New York lives. Best bite of the trip!

Only Murders in the Building anyone?

I've always wanted to ride bikes through Central Park and on our last morning in the city we made it happen before cabbing it to the airport. New York, I'll be back!
